Job summary

A leading Canadian construction firm is looking for an Industrial Engineer to optimize fabrication processes and improve productivity. This position will involve creating estimates for activity durations, driving process improvements, and performing production analyses. Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Work with equipment suppliers and service personnel to execute maintenance programs.
  • Perform causal analysis and develop corrective actions based on key production metrics.

Role Overview

The Industrial Engineer will optimize fabrication processes to improve efficiency and productivity. Working cross‑functionally, the role develops production and resourcing plans, tracks performance metrics, and implements recovery strategies to address deviations. This position is located in Cambridge and supports Aecon’s Fabrication shops in Cambridge and Brantford.

Responsibilities
  • Create accurate estimates of fabrication activity durations based on material takeoffs, design, geometry, and equipment parameters.
  • Drive process improvement through capacity and utilization analysis, shop‑floor layout optimization, and implementation of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Perform production time analysis—including takt time, cycle time, and resource requirements—to inform workflows, jig design, and ergonomics.
  • Define maintenance and capital‑improvement requirements for shop equipment (cranes, sub‑arc welders, plasma cutters).
  • Work with equipment suppliers and service personnel to execute maintenance programs.
  • Perform causal analysis and develop corrective actions based on key production metrics.
Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) certification.
  • 3–7 years of industrial engineering experience, ideally within a fabrication environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous‑improvement methodologies.
Preferred Experience
  • Proven record of implementing successful value‑added change‑management programs.
  • Knowledge of heavy‑metal fabrication processes, including robotic and manual welding and jig design.
  • Experience designing and executing equipment maintenance programs.
  • Familiarity with shop‑floor equipment—including cranes, sub‑arc welders, and plasma tables.
