Job summary

Gerdau is hiring an Electrician for our Selkirk, MB facility. You will install, repair, read wiring diagrams, and service electrical plant equipment on a continental rotating schedule.

The ideal candidate holds Red Seal or Journeyman certification and has experience in manufacturing, with strong safety awareness and teamwork. You will work with high voltage systems up to 550 V, participate in troubleshooting, and use a variety of electrical tools and gauges.

Qualifications

• Red Seal Certification or Provincial Electrician Journeyman Certificate.
• Experience preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to work a rotating continental style schedule; 12 hour shifts and/or day shift.
• Strong communication and teamwork with other trades.
• Basic computer experience.

Responsibilities

• Receives wiring diagrams, drawings, specifications and instructions covering scheduled and emergency repair, installation and inspection work.
• Analyzes drawings, wiring diagrams and circuits to test, repair and service electrical equipment and control systems.
• Plans procedures and determines material needs; troubleshoots and ensures safety and isolation of circuits.
• Plans and performs work requiring knowledge of electrical principles and wiring codes.
• Works near high voltage equipment and conducts work on circuits up to 550 V.
• Makes recommendations for equipment modification and sketches control wiring diagrams.
• Tests and maintains meters and equipment for operating departments.
• Obtains information for spare parts inventory from blueprints and catalogs.
• Performs related work and observes safety rules.
