Job description
Overview

The Instrumentation and Electrical Technician inspects, maintains, repairs and installs mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic and/or hydraulic equipment at plant and/or pump stations.

Main Responsibilities
  • Repair, maintain, install, replace, troubleshoot and diagnose various machinery and mechanical equipment such as: centrifuge, pumps, conveyors, hydraulic press, dewatering press, belts, fans, using hand tools and testing instruments.
  • Inspect completed repairs and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Perform all work with strict adherence to all applicable safety legislation and procedures.
  • Estimate time and material costs on electrical and mechanical projects.
  • Requisition supplies and materials as required and approved by management.
  • Work from engineering drawings, rough sketches, manuals or verbal instruction and install equipment to diagram specifications.
  • Provide performance feedback to workers to motivate or improve adherence to operating procedures or quality standards.
  • Complete work orders as required and ensure appropriate follow-up communication.
  • Disassemble machines and repair/replace/adjust parts accordingly.
  • Clean and lubricate equipment parts and machinery.
  • Maintain equipment in proper operating condition.
  • May be required to perform machine operator duties on occasion.
  • Assist co-workers with any questions or issues regarding task completion.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Valid 442A Electrician Licence or a valid 309A Electrician Licence.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as an industrial electrician in a heavy industrial environment such as water treatment, chemical processing, petrochemicals, cement production or metal processing.
  • Proficient at troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining and servicing all plant equipment in a timely manner.
  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining and servicing process instrumentation (e.g., Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)).
  • Experience with a variety of machinery, vehicles, material handling equipment, hand and power tools.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
  • Thorough knowledge of all applicable safety legislation.
  • Strong problem solving, planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills. Must be fluent in English (read, write and speak).
  • Must be deadline oriented, reliable and dependable on start and finish times as it impacts the operations.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Must work well with others and possess good hand–eye coordination.
  • Must be comfortable rotating throughout the facility as required.
Work Environment
  • Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Fast-paced environment; repetitive tasks; physically demanding; attention to detail.
  • Work Site Environment: Can get dusty, recycling, organic materials, odour.
  • Transportation / Travel Information: Own transportation.
  • Shifts: Monday to Friday between 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM. Weekend work can be requested based on operational needs.
