Job description

A career in our Indirect Tax practice, within Tax services, will provide you with the opportunity to help our clients meet and manage their tax obligations across unique but ever-changing tax specialties. You'll advise clients on their local and overseas tax affairs, while acting as a strategic consultant related to business analysis, managing indirect taxes, dispute resolution, and global enterprise tax solutions. Our team helps our clients optimise cash flow and reduce risk by managing challenges and identifying opportunities related to indirect taxes. You'll support our clients with all aspects of indirect taxation related to global, regional and domestic projects as well as comprehensive restructuring and compliance projects.

Meaningful work you'll be part of

As an Indirect Tax Senior Associate, you'll work as part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve complex business issues from strategy to execution. PwC Professional skills and responsibilities for this management level include but are not limited to:

  • Deal with Canadian indirect taxes which include GST/HST, provincial sales taxes, excise taxes
  • Advise and assist clients on indirect tax matters, which includes verbal and written communication with clients and tax authorities, researching legislation, case law, publications and drafting deliverables
  • Assist clients with tax authority audits and appeals, tax registrations and elections
  • Perform indirect tax due diligence and compliance reviews and health checks
  • Build meaningful relationships with coworkers within the indirect tax group, the tax team and other service lines within PwC Canada and foreign PwC firms
  • Use feedback and reflection to develop self‑awareness, personal strengths and address development areas
  • Delegate to others to provide stretch opportunities, coaching them to deliver results
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and the ability to bring order to unstructured problems
  • Use a broad range of tools and techniques to extract insights from current industry or sector trends
  • Review your work and that of others for quality, accuracy and relevance
  • Know how and when to use tools available for a given situation and can explain the reasons for this choice
  • Seek and embrace opportunities which give exposure to different situations, environments and perspectives
  • Use straightforward communication, in a structured way, when influencing and connecting with others

Experience and skills you'll use to solve
  • Prior accounting or tax experience in public or private sector
  • Hands‑on experience and knowledge of Canadian indirect taxes and/or value added taxes in other jurisdictions
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of technology tools commonly used in data transformation and visualisation, such as Alteryx, PowerQuery, Tableau, PowerBI and advanced Microsoft Excel
  • Strong marketing skills and client focus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, good interpersonal skills and the ability to read and interpret legislation
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments, work effectively under pressure and work well in a team environment
  • When applying to a Quebec‑based opportunity, fluency in French is required. Outside of Quebec, fluency in French is an asset
