Job summary

Lakehead University is seeking a self-motivated research coordinator for a project on Indigenous land-based pedagogies and Indigenous legal orders within the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

The role involves literature reviews, interviews, and collaboration with Indigenous teaching teams and students; a Masters in a related field is required. This is a contract position ending December 31, 2028, with a starting date to be determined.

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate must possess a Masters’ degree in a related field, in particular Indigenous pedagogies, Indigenous research methodologies and/or Indigenous legal orders.
  • Evidence of research experience, preferably in Indigenous issues, including course papers, independent research projects or theses.
  • Demonstrated interest in an academic career and engagement with Indigenous communities is valued.

Responsibilities

  • Attend Gaa‑maada’ooniding Law Camp August 2027/2028 (3-6 full days).
  • Produce literature review on Indigenous land-based pedagogies and Indigenous legal orders.
  • Conduct and analyze interviews with research participants in year 1 and year 2.
  • Attend art creation activity with research participants.
  • Facilitate or note‑take at circles with research participants using Indigenous protocol.
