Job summary

School District 8 (Kootenay Lake) seeks an Indigenous Education Support Worker to assist Aboriginal students with learning, culture, and attendance. You will work trauma-informed with families, school staff, and community partners to promote cultural safety and academic success.

The role requires Grade 12 or higher, completion of an Indigenous Education Support Worker diploma or related credential, and knowledge of local Indigenous languages and culture, with travel between sites as needed.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent high school completion.
  • Indigenous Education Support Worker diploma or an equivalent credential preferred.
  • Significant knowledge of local Indigenous languages and cultures.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License required or as per job location.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to Aboriginal Education programs at assigned schools.
  • Offer academic, social, and cultural support in a trauma-informed manner.
  • Foster Aboriginal culture, history, and traditions with emphasis on local nations.
  • Build relationships with families to increase student belonging at school.
  • Maintain up-to-date records for audit requirements.
  • Participate in school-based team meetings and other relevant meetings.
  • Provide information to families about community support agencies.
