Job summary

Nova Scotia Community College's Office of L'nu Student Success seeks a College & Career Prep Coordinator to guide Mi'kmaq and Indigenous students through education and career transitions. The role focuses on culturally responsive advising, admissions support, and collaboration with campus partners across NSCC.

You will deliver workshops, connect students with financial resources, and build relationships with Mi'kmaq communities.

Qualifications

• Community College diploma in relevant discipline; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
• Minimum three years of experience supporting students, clients, or community members in education, employment, career development, student services, community engagement, or a related field.
• Lived experience as a member of the Mi'kmaq/Indigenous community
• Experience working directly with Mi'kmaq and Indigenous students, communities, organizations, and partners is strongly preferred.
• Experience delivering workshops, presentations, coaching, or group facilitation.
• Experience supporting students with career planning, transition services, financial literacy, or educational navigation would be considered an asset.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Copilot.
• Valid driver's licence and ability to travel to communities, campuses, and events as required.

Responsibilities

• Support Mi'kmaq and Indigenous students as they navigate educational and career transitions.
• Provide culturally responsive guidance and outreach that promotes confidence, belonging, readiness, and success.
• Assist applicants in understanding admission requirements, completing pre-entry assessments, meeting program milestones, and preparing academically and financially for college.
• Help students access financial resources and supports, including loans, band funding, scholarships, bursaries, awards, childcare resources, and community supports.
• Build strong relationships with Mi'kmaq communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and campus partners to support student transitions and success.
• Use career development principles to help students explore options and align education with career goals.
• Coordinate and promote student engagement initiatives and transition programming.
• Deliver workshops and coaching related to career readiness, including résumé, interview prep, professional communication, and workplace expectations.
• Support graduating students in preparing for employment, apprenticeships, further education, and career advancement opportunities.
• Collaborate with employers and industry partners to strengthen employment opportunities for students.
• Advocate for equitable access to educational opportunities and address barriers affecting student success.
• Develop and maintain resources, tools, and reports that support college readiness and career planning.
