The Indigenous Care-Giver Support Model supports clients in their homes, through receiving care from trusted family and community members (known as care-givers) with a focus on culturally safe and appropriate care. The model helps care-givers build their skills to support their loved ones with care tasks such as toileting, bathing, turning/positioning, etc. Care-givers work directly with the Indigenous Care-Giver Support team, including the Licensed Practical Nurse who provides education, and ensures connection to the Home Support Nursing team should further or additional clinical needs arise. In addition to supporting care-givers, the Licensed Practical Nurse performs nursing procedures within the competency guidelines and standards of practice as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP) and the current legislative scope of practice in a community health setting; coordinates the provision of support services and liaises with Home Health and Indigenous Health staff, as required.
Graduation from an approved school in Practical Nursing. One year recent, related clinical and/or mentoring experience in a community health setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP). Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
