Job summary

St. Michael's Health Group in Edmonton is seeking an Independent Living Assistant to support residents with daily living tasks in our seniors' lodge.

You will follow policies, assist with laundry, housekeeping, and dining room setup, and help maintain a safe, home-like environment while upholding dignity and privacy.

The ideal candidate is a Health Care Aide graduate with CLHA registration, and has good interpersonal skills and a caring, patient approach.

Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate of a recognized Health Care Aide program.
  • Active registration in the CLHA.
  • Experience in housekeeping or meal service is an asset.
  • Prior caregiver experience is an asset.
  • Friendly disposition and good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Physically and mentally fit to perform duties.
  • Willing to work with seniors and align with SMHG values.

Responsibilities

  • Follow policies, procedures, and Acts relevant to the lodge operations.
  • Maintain a home-like environment with residents' dignity and privacy.
  • Provide and receive shift reports and seek clarifications as needed.
  • Assist with laundry, housekeeping and personal care tasks as assigned.
  • Participate in dining room setup and meal service support.
  • Assist in kitchen duties and basic janitorial tasks as required.
  • Adhere to infection control and WHMIS protocols.

Line 11 - Evenings (4:00pm - 9:30pm)
WEEK 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
WEEK 2: Wednesday, Thursday
35.00 hours every two weeks, 0.45 FTE, 7 shifts in 2 weeks

We are currently recruiting for a caring and dedicated Independent Living Assistant to join our team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Follows all policies, directives, procedures, rules, regulations and Acts pertaining to the operation of Millennium Pavilion Seniors’ Lodge.

Follows and adheres to the Supportive Services Supervisor ’s expectations regarding Reside nt independence, choice, dignity, privacy, individuality and ensures a home-like environment for Residents.

Provides and receives report at change of shift.

Asks Supportive Services Supervisor for clarification of assignments if required.

Reads the staff communication records.

Refers to Resident records as required.

Maintains a clean, neat, comfortable, safe environment for Residents, staff and visitors.

Assists Residents with laundry service, housekeeping and personal care services as assigned.

Participates in setting up dining room.

Assists in kitchen as required including wash dishes, sweep, wash floors, put stock away and other duties as required.

Performs housekeeping duties which include floor care and other janitorial duties.

Demonstrates knowledge of and follows infection control and WHMIS protocols.

Advises Supportive Services Supervisor when additional supplies are required.

Notifies Supportive Services Supervisor and fellow staff members about changes in Resident’s condition, and planned Resident absences.

Participates in the orientation program and staff development programs as directed.

Promotes and maintains good public relations within the facility and with outside organizations.

Maintain confidentiality of work-related information at all times.

Ensures that equipment, procedures and activities are conducive to a safe environment for Clients, staff, volunteers and visitors.

Performs other related duties as assigned by the Supportive Services Supervisor .

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a graduate of a recognized Health Care Aide program.
  • Active registration in the CLHA.
  • Experience in housekeeping, meal service is an asset.
  • Prior caregiver experience would be an asset.
  • Performance acceptable to the Employer in your current position.
  • A friendly disposition and good interpersonal and communication skills are preferred .
  • Must be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Must be willing to work closely with seniors, and/or physically/mentally challenged individuals and within the value system of St. Michael’s Health Group.

ALL SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES MUST HAVE PRIOR TO START DATE:

  • A current and clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check that has been obtained on more than 90 calendar days prior to the hire date.
  • A tuberculosis screening that has been completed no more than 12 months prior to the hire date.
  • Completion of all Hepatitis B vaccines.
