Job summary

Varsity Tutors is seeking an experienced IB Biology tutor to teach high-level biology topics and IA prep remotely. You will tailor lessons to IB SL/HL requirements, explain complex concepts clearly, and adapt to each student’s learning style.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of IB Biology topics spanning cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, ecology, evolution, and IA prep.
• Ability to teach experimental design, data analysis, and data-based questions for IB Biology SL/HL.
• Familiarity with IB syllabus SL/HL and IA guidance; adapt instruction using past papers and mark schemes.

Responsibilities

• Explain IB Biology concepts and exam preparation for IB SL/HL.

What We Look For In a IB Biology Tutor

• Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of IB Biology curriculum covering cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, ecology, evolution and biodiversity, human physiology, and additional higher-level topics including nucleic acids, metabolism, plant biology, and animal physiology. Ability to explain genetic modification, climate change biology, and internal assessment requirements while preparing students for IB Biology SL and HL examinations.
• Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching experimental design, data analysis, and biological systems analysis for IB Biology. Guides students through interpreting data-based questions, drawing and labeling biological diagrams, analyzing genetics problems, and constructing evidence-based arguments. Emphasizes connecting biological concepts to the Theory of Knowledge and develops skills for the Internal Assessment experimental investigation.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with IB Biology syllabus for SL and HL and common challenges such as managing content breadth, meeting IA requirements, and answering extended-response questions. Adapts instruction using past IB examination papers, mark scheme analysis, and IA guidance to support IB students at both Standard and Higher Levels preparing for internal assessments and final examinations.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
