Job summary

OxyChem is seeking an Instrumentation / Electrician Technician for our Niagara Falls, Ontario facility. The role focuses on performing PMs and maintaining electrical systems in a safety-minded, 24/7 plant environment.

The successful candidate will hold a Certificate of Qualification in Instrumentation or Electrician, read drawings, and be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Qualifications

• Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) Instrumentation Technician and/or Electrician.
• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
• Ability to read drawings and follow specifications; basic computer and email skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform and document preventive maintenance (PMs) on electrical equipment.
• Repair and maintain motors, motor controls, valves, and transmitters.
• Read drawings and follow specifications; use diagnostic tools.
• Work overtime, weekends, and holidays to maintain 24/7 operations.

Basic knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations. Knowledge of and ability to operate basic computer software applications as well as outlook and to conduct research using the internet.* The daily work tasks center around performing and documenting PMs, the repair and maintenance of various types of electrical equipment, notably motor and motor controls, valves and valve configuration, various types of transmitters and analyzers. Must be able to read drawings and follow specifications. Valid driver’s license required.* Experience: Successful completion for the Instrumentation or Electrician Apprenticeship with equivalent experience program and have acquired relevant hands-on related work experience. Developed interpersonal / communication and ability to work cooperatively and respectfully within a team. Ability to deal with other staff / contractors with tact, diplomacy and courtesy. Must have relevant plant experience and be familiar with plant operations, chemical processing equipment, procedures and related systems. Ability to accurately use diagnostic tools. Required to work overtime, weekends and holidays as needed to maintain a 24/7 operating plant.* Physical requirements – Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position including climbing ladders and stairs, walking, bending, stooping etc. Must have good manual dexterity and experience using industrial hand tools and power tools. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms. Must be able to work in confined spaces, work at heights and work from platforms. Must have the ability and willingness to participate on the Emergency Response Team - Fire Brigade.
