Total Effort: Approximately 80–135 hours (Part‑Time)

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Server and Hyper‑V Specialist to act as a Technical Business Analyst/Consultant. This part‑time role will focus on validating hardware choices and developing the low‑level design and configurations for the client’s new Hyper‑V SCADA clusters. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of a Solution Architect to deliver a comprehensive design document for six Hyper‑V infrastructure clusters. Experience with NetApp storage is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibility is to create a detailed, low‑level design document covering the configuration and layout of the new Hyper‑V environment. The design areas to be addressed include:

Storage and Networking

• Storage Sizing and capacity planning.
• Validation of Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) sizing.
• Defining iSCSI and Server Message Block (SMB) storage layouts.
• Establishing Naming Conventions for VMs and storage resources.

Virtualization and Clustering

• Designing the Hyper‑V Host Layout.
• Determining optimal configuration for Virtual Machine (VM) Pinning vs. Anti‑Affinity Rules.
• Planning for Structured Query Language (SQL) Clustering integration.
• Configuration of System Centre Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM).

Resilience and Compliance

• Developing strategies for High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR).
• Defining the comprehensive Backup Strategy.
• Addressing Regulatory Requirements and Hardening procedures for the environment.
• Establishing the Patching Strategy and Environment Monitoring protocols.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Proven expertise as a Server and Hyper‑V Specialist or Infrastructure Consultant.

Deep understanding of Hyper‑V clustering, networking (VLAN), and storage principles (iSCSI/SMB).

Experience with High Availability, Disaster Recovery, and Backup solutions for virtualized platforms.

Familiarity with System Centre Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM).

Strong analytical and validation skills, especially regarding hardware and capacity sizing.

Preferred Qualifications

Hands‑on experience with NetApp storage solutions.

Familiarity with designing infrastructure for SCADA or other industrial control systems.

Experience with regulatory compliance and system hardening in a server environment.
