Job summary

NSB Omega is seeking a seasoned Hydrogeologist to support groundwater risk management and regulatory compliance for an oil and gas client in Calgary, AB. The role emphasizes technical excellence, field application, and collaboration with regulators and Indigenous communities.

The candidate will lead groundwater monitoring design, assess risks related to drilling operations, and contribute to reporting, permitting, and site environmental management programs. A P.Geo./P.Eng.

Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive hydrogeological experience.
  • Experience in oil sands, energy, mining, or related industrial sectors is preferred.
  • Strong technical writing, data interpretation, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Alberta environmental regulations and regulatory processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hydrogeological expertise and strategic support across environmental and operational initiatives.
  • Assess groundwater-related risks associated with resource well drilling operations.
  • Lead and review groundwater contamination assessment and investigation programs.
  • Evaluate groundwater monitoring programs for large in situ oil sands developments.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, regulatory submissions, and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with regulators, Indigenous communities, and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance and safe operations.

NSB Omega is searching for a Hydrogeologist for our MAJOR Oil & Gas Client in Calgary, AB.

Assignment Description

The successful candidate will play a key role in groundwater risk management, environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and operational support. This position offers exposure to a diverse range of hydrogeological and environmental programs, making it an ideal opportunity for a professional who enjoys both technical excellence and practical application in the field.

What You'll Do

As a trusted technical resource, you will provide hydrogeological expertise and strategic support across a variety of environmental and operational initiatives, including:

  • Assessing and managing groundwater-related risks associated with resource well drilling operations
  • Supporting the design, implementation, and interpretation of groundwater monitoring programs for large in situ oil sands developments
  • Leading and reviewing groundwater contamination assessment and investigation programs
  • Evaluating surface casing vent flow fluids through hydrochemical and isotopic analyses
  • Supporting the development, licensing, operation, and reporting of shallow groundwater supply systems
  • Conducting domestic water well investigations and responding to stakeholder concerns
  • Providing technical support related to deep well disposal activities
  • Interpreting hydrogeological and environmental data to support operational and regulatory decision-making
  • Collaborating with regulators, consultants, Indigenous communities, and internal stakeholders
  • Supporting environmental permitting activities and ongoing site environmental management programs
  • Preparing and reviewing technical reports, regulatory submissions, and supporting documentation
What You'll Bring

The ideal candidate is a collaborative and technically strong hydrogeologist who is comfortable working in dynamic operational environments and managing multiple priorities.

Required Qualifications
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Earth Sciences, Geological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Professional designation as a P.Geo. or P.Eng. in good standing within Alberta
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive hydrogeological experience
  • Strong understanding of groundwater systems, monitoring programs, and environmental assessment methodologies
  • Excellent technical writing, data interpretation, and communication skills
  • Experience working within resource development, energy, mining, or related industrial sectors
  • Working knowledge of Alberta environmental regulations and regulatory processes
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting oil sands or conventional energy operations
  • Background in hydrogeologic mapping, groundwater modeling, and hydrogeochemistry
  • Experience with regulatory applications, environmental impact assessments, and environmental compliance programs
  • Familiarity with groundwater data management and interpretation tools
