Job summary

Munich Re in Toronto seeks a Technical Accountant - Claims Handler to process property and casualty claims from treaty and facultative business. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in a hybrid Toronto office setting.

The role covers both claims handling and technical accounting tasks, reviewing policy docs, reconciling balances, and posting settlements while ensuring quality standards and timely reporting.

Qualifications

• University or College education required.
• Basic knowledge of (re)insurance.
• Ongoing upgrading of PC skills and accounting knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Check coverage against contracts; validate calculations; approve payments within authority.
• Process run-off losses including commutations when applicable.
• Process claims via B2B workflow tools meeting speed and quality standards.
• Collaborate with Claims Management and Technical Accountants.
• Review policy documents; analyze data; clear aged receivables/payables.
• Reconcile and post premiums, claims, and commissions bordereaux.
• Set up new and renewed treaties in accounting systems; QA against contracts.
• Monitor inbox; respond to client queries; update forecasts with underwriters.
• Prepare monthly/quarterly reconciliation reports and ad hoc reports.
