The opportunity

We are looking for an early career professional in Human Resources (minimum 2 years’ experience) to join our team as an HR Advisor, providing HR advisory and compliance support to approximately 180 team members in Canada and 120 team members in New Zealand. The role will primarily be based out of Burnaby in Vancouver and will report into the HR Manager based in Brisbane, Australia. While this person will be our only HR position in Canada, they will be supported by a very collaborative HR & Payroll team based out of Australia, including having senior payroll support and a HR Administrator to work with. Our Vancouver office is also home to our Recruiter, Safety Advisor, Trainer and Finance Officer for our Canadian Operations, who are all a very collaborative & welcoming support team.

The position will be responsible for
  • Advise on employment legislation for British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, Alberta & New Zealand (note, past experience in all locations is not required)
  • Provide performance management advice & support conducting investigations, with the help of the People Operations Manager
  • Work with and guide the People Ops Administrator on executing employment related paperwork in a timely manner, ensuring all employment records are accurate & compliant
  • Coordinate Visas and sponsorship as per legislation and operational requirements
  • Support & advise on selection of hires, promotions, and general people movements
  • Conduct monthly site visits (including interprovincial on occasion), as well as being willing to do some hands‑on learning with how our operations work
  • Support the operations team to accurately feed pay related information to our payroll team
  • Complete monthly and ad‑hoc reporting as requested on key people data
  • Coordinate the Reward & Recognition program for all 3 countries
  • Contribute to and eventually lead people initiatives and projects
  • Support the coordination of remuneration review & bonuses
The person we are looking for

  • At least 2 years’ experience in Human Resources with a good baseline understanding of Canadian employment legislation
  • The ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in uncomfortable or complex people situations
  • Organised and able to manage their own time effectively
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English (language skills in French would also be beneficial but is not essential)
  • A growth mindset and a willingness to learn
