Job summary

Socomec Group in Brampton is seeking an HSE Specialist to support health, safety and environmental programs across three facilities, ensuring compliance with provincial and federal regulations. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • JHSC certificate is an asset.
  • First Aid certificate is an asset.
  • 2+ years of experience in HSE management, preferably in Industrial/Manufacturing settings.
  • Knowledge of OHSA and environmental regulations is required/asset.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety policies and procedures aligned with provincial legislation and global safety standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments, site audits, and hazard identification across facilities.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness plans, including drills and first-aid training.
  • Ensure compliance with OHSA and regulatory reporting; maintain safety records.
  • Support environmental policies, waste management, emissions control, and energy efficiency.
  • Deliver HSE training programs for staff, contractors, and visitors.
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Prepare regular safety and environmental performance reports for the HSE Manager.

About This Role

The HSE Specialist will be responsible for supporting Health, Safety and Environmental practices (HSE) program for the 3 facilities in Brampton, ensuring compliance with Provincial and Federal regulations. This role ensures compliance with local regulations while aligning with global safety and environmental standards. The HSE Specialist will play a critical role in promoting a culture of safety, sustainability, and environmental responsibility throughout the facility.

Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities
Health & Safety Program Management:
  • Maintain comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and best practices aligned with provincial legislation and global corporate safety standards.
  • Maintain regular risk assessments, site audits, and hazard identification to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Maintain and Coordinate emergency preparedness plans, including fire drills, evacuation procedures, and first-aid training.
Compliance And Reporting
  • Ensure compliance with the State Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and other applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, track safety performance metrics, and prepare periodic reports for HSE Manager.
Environmental Management
  • Maintain environmental policies and programs to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including waste management, emissions control, and energy efficiency.
  • Support HSE Manager on environmental impact metrics, such as carbon footprint, water usage, and hazardous materials management.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental laws and standards, such as the Environmental Protection Act (EPA).
  • Act as the primary point of contact for HSE-related inquiries, fostering a culture of safety and environmental responsibility among all staff.
  • Deliver training programs on workplace safety, environmental regulations, and sustainability practices.
  • Develop and deliver engaging HSE training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Facilitate onboarding.
  • Collaborate on monthly JHSC meetings, inspections, and audits.
Incident Management And Prevention
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain detailed records of all safety and environmental incidents, ensuring proper reporting and follow-up actions.
Collaboration And Reporting
  • Provide regular updates and reports on safety and environmental performance, initiatives, and compliance to HSE Manager.
  • Act as a key liaison between facilities ensuring smooth communication and consistency.
Essential Qualifications, Experience, And Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • JHSC certificate is an asset.
  • First Aid certificate is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Safety Management software and tools is an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in health, safety, and environmental management, preferably in a Industrial, Manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and environmental regulations.
  • Experience with sustainability initiatives and corporate environmental responsibility programs.
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessment, incident investigation, and environmental compliance.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and HSE reporting tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and locations effectively.
  • Proactive problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and cultural sensitivity skills to navigate global collaboration.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to translate global safety directives into local operations.

Compensation: $75,000 - $85,000
