Job summary

Growscape in Burlington, Ontario, is seeking an HR Generalist to serve as the primary on-site HR resource for our plant of about 30 employees. The role blends hands-on HR administration with day-to-day plant support, including payroll-related tasks and office duties.

You will partner with Corporate HR on U.S. benefits, manage onboarding, recruitment for hourly roles, and drive employee communications and engagement aligned with Growscape's values.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of HR and/or payroll experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll procedures, employment laws, and HR best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Positive attitude, work ethic, and good communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Good computer knowledge with Microsoft software and business software.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate employee records and personnel files in the HRIS (Paycom) and filing systems.
  • Process timecards, attendance tracking, and PTO vacation records; track attendance points and support related discipline.
  • Support leave/return-to-work cases with Corporate HR; maintain compliance postings and recordkeeping (SIN, WSIB, Human Rights Code, OHSA laws).
  • Track and report HR metrics (turnover, attendance, time-to-fill) for plant and corporate use.
  • Manage full-cycle recruiting for hourly and plant support roles, including background checks and drug screening.
  • Own new hire onboarding - orientation, 30/90-day check-ins, and training documentation.
  • Represent the plant at local career fairs and community recruiting events.
  • Serve as the SME for Canadian benefits. Provide on-site support for benefits questions.
  • Partner with Corporate HR and Payroll on compensation administration in Paycom.
  • Review time/attendance data for payroll accuracy and support statutory benefit programs (EI, CPP, WSIB).
  • Support U.S. benefits administration.
  • Serve as a visible, approachable HR presence and trusted resource for employee questions and concerns.
  • Partner with plant leadership on employee communications and support recognition/engagement initiatives tied to Growscape's values.
  • Help supervisors communicate clearly during change and coordinate employee feedback channels, summarizing themes for leadership.
  • Roughly a portion of the week is spent on plant operations and site administration, giving exposure to production, inventory, and finance processes.

Job Purpose

The HR Generalist is the primary on-site HR resource for our Burlington, ON plant of approximately 30 employees, combining hands-on HR administration with day-to-day plant support. This role owns the tactical execution of HR processes while also handling routine accounts payable and office administration tasks that keep the plant running smoothly. In addition, the role partners with Corporate Total Rewards on supporting U.S. benefits administration. This person is a steady, visible presence on the floor - helping sustain a positive plant culture and serving as a trusted communication link between plant leadership and the workforce.

HR Administration & Employee Records
  • Maintain accurate employee records and personnel files in the HRIS (Paycom) and filing systems.
  • Process new hire paperwork, status changes, and terminations, including offer letters and termination documentation.
  • Process timecards, attendance tracking, and PTO vacation records; track attendance points and support related discipline.
  • Support leave/return-to-work cases with Corporate HR; maintain compliance postings and recordkeeping (SIN, WSIB, Human Rights Code, OHSA laws).
  • Track and report HR metrics (turnover, attendance, time-to-fill) for plant and corporate use.
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
  • Manage full-cycle recruiting for hourly and plant support roles, including background checks and drug screening.
  • Own new hire onboarding - orientation, 30/90-day check-ins, and training documentation.
  • Represent the plant at local career fairs and community recruiting events.
Compensation & Benefits Support
  • Serve as the SME for Canadian benefits. Provide on-site support for benefits questions.
  • Partner with Corporate HR and Payroll on compensation administration in Paycom (pay changes, pay grade data, T4 support, audits).
  • Review time/attendance data for payroll accuracy and support statutory benefit programs (EI, CPP, WSIB).
  • Support U.S. benefits administration.
Plant Culture & Communications
  • Serve as a visible, approachable HR presence and trusted resource for employee questions and concerns.
  • Partner with plant leadership on employee communications and support recognition/engagement initiatives tied to Growscape's values.
  • Help supervisors communicate clearly during change and coordinate employee feedback channels, summarizing themes for leadership.
Operations & Administration

This role is not exclusively human resources. Roughly a portion of the week is spent on plant operations and site administration, giving the successful candidate exposure to production, inventory, and finance processes alongside the HR mandate, and a broader operational skill set than a traditional HR or payroll position offers.

  • CMS data entry.
  • Production reporting.
  • Inventory transfers, cycle counts, and receiving.
  • Prepare and maintain Bills of Lading.
  • Process accounts payable for Canada, including invoice review, PO matching, and approval routing; reconcile monthly P-Card receipts.
  • Order supplies and coordinate lunches, holiday events, and employee celebrations.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Plant Manager and site leadership team.
