About the Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia

About the Role

This position is an 18-month term.

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the HR Associate contributes to the overall success of the Human Resources Department at Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia (WCBNS) by serving as the primary administrative support.

The Human Resources Associate is responsible for providing overall support, administration, and coordination for two teams (Human Resources and Change and Organizational Development). This role encompasses support to enable all functions and activities, contributing to the overall departmental goal of delivering innovative HR programs and services which maximize the success of employees and advance the WCB’s vision of a safe and secure Nova Scotia.

This position provides a wide range of support, including but not limited to:

  • Provides timely and accurate information to employees and management regarding processes, policies and services as the first point of contact for both internal and external inquiries.
  • Maintains confidential electronic and paper files and records. Develops, prepares, and distributes various human resources department documents and reports.
  • Coordinates and provides broad support for the internal and external recruitment, interviewing, and hiring processes.
  • Coordinates new employee on-boarding activities.
  • Coordinates and provides general support for training and development programs including the administration of the annual performance review process.
  • Supports the payroll and benefits functions ensuring accuracy of data and reporting as required.
  • Fulfills the role of recording secretary for the organization’s Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee and other committees and groups as required.

Your Experience & Skills
  • An undergraduate degree with a concentration in Human Resources or an undergraduate degree accompanied by a diploma in Human Resources from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum one year working experience within a Human Resources environment; working in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Proficient technical skills with MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and various types of office equipment, proven through education or experience, including experience using Human Resource Information System software.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
