Location

This is a remote / hybrid position. You can be located in Ottawa or Toronto, Canada. If you are located in Ottawa you will be expected to work a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week at our Ottawa headquarters.

About the team

The HR Advisor will provide practical timely high-quality HR guidance and employee relations support across the business. This role will work closely with the HR Business Partner (HRBP) and Employee Relations function to provide generalist HR support across business units ensuring people practices are consistent, compliant and aligned with company goals.

The HR Advisor serves as a trusted resource for managers delivering clear and confident guidance while supporting the implementation of HR solutions. They will coach managers through employee relations issues, performance management and HR policy application while also providing operational support to the HRBP team.

What you will do
  • Support the execution of performance management processes working directly with leaders to address underperformance and navigate both formal and informal performance interventions.
  • Support managers in addressing day-to-day employee relations concerns providing guidance on conduct, performance, terminations, attendance and grievance situations.
  • Provide clear and practical advice to managers and employees on HR policies, practices and procedures.
  • Partner with HRBP team to deliver HR initiatives and projects within business units escalating more complex or high-risk matters as required.
  • Support leaders and HRBPs in defining position requirements and provide administrative support for creating and managing open roles in the HR system.
  • Assist HRBPs with the implementation of HR Centre of Excellence and HR Services programs and practices.
  • Liaise with the HR Services team to ensure smooth delivery of employee lifecycle processes (e.g. onboarding, contract changes, terminations and offboarding) and provide advisory support to managers throughout.
  • Assist in communication, training and change management activities to help embed people programs effectively across the business.
  • Partner with HRBPs to support organizational changes including restructures, mergers, acquisitions and workforce reductions.
  • Provide operational and administrative support to HRBPs in the delivery of HR projects, organizational changes and talent initiatives.
What we are looking for
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field
  • 5 years progressive HR experience with demonstrated strength in employee relations
  • Broad HR generalist knowledge across the employee lifecycle including performance management, employee engagement and organizational change
  • Solid understanding of employment legislation and HR compliance requirements
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical and decision making skills with a pragmatic solution oriented mindset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide clear, concise and professional guidance to managers and employees
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to partner cross-functionally across HR Centres of Excellence, HRBPs, Employee relations and business leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and build capability in line managers on people-related issues
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • High level of discretion and integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information
