Westman Immigrant Services (WIS) is a non-profit registered charity organization serving newcomers in the Western Manitoba region. With a vision of creating a generational impact for clients, our staff and our community. We liaise with community groups and organizations to work towards building capacity in our community for improving services to immigrants and refugees.

Overview

We are currently hiring for a Housing & Donations Coordinator. Working from the WIS offices in Brandon, a Housing & Donations Coordinator is responsible for providing newcomers with quality services related to housing and donations.

Responsibilities
  • Take a case management approach to assist clients on their journey towards permanent accommodation including initial tenancy and other areas of life affecting housing
  • Develop partnerships with landlords to create a rental library and manage resources to assist clients gain permanent housing
  • Work in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure temporary and emergency units are available for clients i.e. furniture and items in units are stocked within required standards etc.
  • Support clients navigate service providers and benefit programming
  • Facilitate education on tenant rights and responsibilities towards supporting their settlement process including how to use appliances etc.
  • Develop partnerships with service providers and community stakeholders to effectively link clients with appropriate services/referrals
  • Coordinate the collection and distribution of donated items
  • Confidentially manage caseloads of diverse and high demand need clients by conducting in person meetings, home visits, phone calls and online communication
  • Support administration within program guidelines including transitional documentation and preparation of resources
  • Empower clients to become self-sufficient and respect professional boundaries
  • Stay informed on current resources, trends, changes and services gaps in the community
  • Maintain accurate records of services provided, statistics, and prepare reports as required
  • Create an inspiring, engaging and collaborative atmosphere within teams and other WIS departments to achieve collective goals and deliver quality service to clients
  • Provide management with operational support as required
Skill, Ability and Licensing Requirements
  • Able to manage client caseloads and maintain confidentiality
  • Experience working with various levels of government
  • Effective problem-solving, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Experience with database management and Microsoft Office
  • Strong proficiency and ability to communicate in English
  • First Aid Certification
  • Provide a clear Criminal Record, Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Vulnerable Sector Check and Driver Abstract; where required
  • Ability to work collaboratively with management, employees, and community stakeholders in a diverse environment
