Job summary

A local educational service provider in Powell River is seeking a part-time Housekeeper to provide light housekeeping services to participants. Candidates must have excellent communication skills, a Class 5 driver’s license, and knowledge of cleaning practices. The role requires independent work with minimal supervision and participation in ongoing training. This position offers a competitive hourly wage and a one-year contract, with the possibility of extension.

Qualifications

  • Criminal Record Check renewed every 5 years.
  • TB test.
  • Valid Work Safe BC approved First Aid Certificate.
  • ICBC Driver’s abstract.

Responsibilities

  • Provides light housekeeping to scheduled participants.
  • Creates a comfortable atmosphere and communicates effectively.
  • Maintains awareness of participant safety and well-being.
  • Cleans various participant areas using appropriate methods and equipment.
  • Reports maintenance requests to the supervisor.
  • Completes program record keeping and administrative duties.

Required Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use personal computer and appropriate software effectively to complete the work on time. This includes at a minimum file management, e-mail, internet search, telephone and word processing skills.
  • Ability to assist in emergencies.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Excellent organization, time, and general task management skills.
  • Ability to participate in ongoing training provided by inclusion powell river, from time to time.
  • Ability to assess and interpret human behaviour accurately and respond supportively and appropriately.
  • Ability to complete tasks efficiently within a set schedule.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques, products, and equipment.
  • Understanding proper handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.

Qualifications

  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • The use of a safe, well-maintained personal vehicle with appropriate[GU1.1][JB1.2] insurance
  • Completion of Grade 10
  • One (1) month of recent related experience

List of Duties
  • The Housekeeper provides light housekeeping to scheduled Better at Home participants.
  • The Housekeeper strives to create a comfortable atmosphere while inside the participant’s home by being friendly, a good communicator, and offering supportive listening to the needs of the individuals.
  • The Housekeeper should maintain awareness of participant safety and well-being, reporting any concerns to their supervisor (Community Program Manager).
  • Cleans, washes, and disinfects Better at Home participant areas such as floors, carpets, counters and washrooms by methods such as dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, wet mopping, using various manual and power cleaning equipment.
  • Cleans, dusts and wipes down various appliances and accessories.
  • Reports any non-routine maintenance requests to the supervisor.
  • Changes and makes beds, as required.
  • Launders linens used to complete job duties.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision and able to respond to participants requests using best judgement.
  • Reviews the Cultural Diversity Plan annually and participate in training provided by inclusion powell river.
  • Routinely promotes inclusion powell river’s commitment to diversity and respect for cultural diversity in how we interact with participants and colleagues.
  • Participates in training offered from time to time by inclusion powell river
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Completes program record keeping, incident reports, and other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Attends team meetings, check-in’s with manager, or other meetings as scheduled.
