Job description

House Service Associate

Location: Prince Albert, SK

Employment: Full-Time & Part-Time Opportunities Available

Reporting to: Facility Coordinator

Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan is a place that offers comfort, support and community to families with sick children, creating a nurturing place where families can heal together through compassion and communal support. They offer essential resources and a supportive home environment with a range of services including meals, health and wellness programs and sibling support, seeking to help alleviate the financial burden with accessing medical care but also enrich the healing process. Beyond just a place to stay, they have created a home filled with healing and hope, ensuring families can focus on what matters most, the well-being of their children.

With compassion and community support, Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan thrives on the generosity of its volunteers, donors and community partners. As they continue to grow and expand their impact with the support of Saskatchewan’s caring community, they are building brand new locations in Prince Albert and Regina. Connect with an organization that is passionate about contributing directly to the recovery and emotional support of children and families.

The Opportunity

As Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan prepares to open its new Houses in Prince Albert and Regina, they are seeking House Service Associates to ensure families arrive to spaces that are exceptionally clean, comfortable and cared for throughout their stay.

Your day may begin by connecting with Family Service to see which families have checked out, which rooms are needed next and where attention is required throughout the House. From there, you may turn over guestrooms, keep common spaces immaculate, manage laundry and supplies, or respond to something unexpected that needs attention. Some days will bring several room turnovers, while others will give you more time to focus on the details throughout the House.

The people living in the spaces you care for are just as important as the work itself. You will regularly cross paths with families in hallways and guestrooms, and those interactions matter. Maintaining an exceptional standard of cleanliness also means understanding that a family caring for a seriously ill child may have very different priorities. You notice the details, take pride in your work and approach families with compassion, never judgment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Housekeeping & Room Readiness

  • Clean and prepare guestrooms following family check-outs and scheduled room refreshes, ensuring every room meets RMHC Saskatchewan's standards for cleanliness, sanitization and presentation.

  • Maintain common areas including washrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms and shared spaces, with close attention to the details that keep the House clean, orderly and welcoming.

  • Complete deeper cleaning as required, including walls, windows, cupboards, appliances, bathrooms, blinds and areas beneath furniture.

  • Communicate closely with Family Service regarding check-outs, room readiness and areas requiring additional attention.

  • Identify priorities throughout the shift and work independently to ensure guestrooms and shared spaces remain ready for families.

  • Laundry, Supplies & House Support

  • Complete onsite laundering, restocking and organization of guestroom linens, kitchen linens and other House supplies.

  • Monitor housekeeping inventory and communicate supply needs to the Facility Coordinator.

  • Support waste, organics and recycling removal and follow established health, safety and sanitization procedures.

  • Complete minor day-to-day tasks such as replacing light bulbs, batteries and vacuum bags, while reporting larger maintenance concerns to the Facility Coordinator.

  • Support Food Programs, House Service volunteers and other operational needs when additional assistance is required.

  • Family & Team Support

  • Interact with families throughout the House with warmth, discretion and compassion, offering assistance with supplies, cleaning needs or other practical support.

  • Recognize that families experiencing medical crisis may have different capacities and approaches to maintaining their personal spaces, responding with understanding and respect.

  • Communicate relevant family or House concerns to Family Service to help maintain a safe, clean and supportive environment.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and volunteers, stepping in where needed to support the overall operation of the House.

Qualifications

The Essentials (Hard Skills)

  • 2+ years of housekeeping or cleaning experience; experience within hospitality, healthcare, long-term care, commercial cleaning or another high-standard environment is preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of housekeeping practices, sanitization and safe cleaning procedures, with exceptional attention to cleanliness and presentation.

  • Physically capable of being active throughout the shift and safely lifting up to 40 pounds while completing duties including moving furniture, making beds, vacuuming, mopping and cleaning bathrooms.

  • Comfortable working independently, determining priorities and completing responsibilities to an established standard without constant direction.

  • Knowledge of WHMIS and Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety standards is preferred; required training can be provided.

  • First Aid and CPR training is considered an asset.

  • Ability to successfully complete a Police Record Check prior to employment.

  • Flexibility to work a rotating schedule that includes early mornings, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays, with some travel required.

The Intangibles (Soft Skills)

  • Exceptional attention to detail with pride in doing things properly and maintaining a consistently high standard throughout the House.

  • Compassionate and non-judgmental when interacting with families, understanding that caring for a seriously ill child may leave little time or energy for maintaining their room.

  • Dependable and self-directed, with the ability to recognize what needs attention, prioritize responsibilities and follow through without constant direction.

  • Warm and approachable with families, with the awareness to offer assistance when needed while remaining respectful of their space and circumstances.

  • Adaptable when priorities change, shifting focus easily when room turnovers, family needs or unexpected cleaning requirements arise.

  • Collaborative and communicative, working closely with Family Service, Facilities, volunteers and colleagues to support the day-to-day needs of the House.
