Job summary

Fraser Health is seeking physicians to work at Burnaby Hospital as Hospitalists. The MRP will manage unattached patients and provide supportive care for surgical, medical, and psychiatric cases within a well-established program.

Work is rotated among the group with commitments to ER intake shifts, evenings, weekends and nights. Full-time is preferred, with possible part-time options. Fraser Health emphasizes collaborative, inter-professional care across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • CCFP certification required or eligible
  • CPSBC Full Licensure to practice in BC
  • CMPA membership recommended
  • ACLS suggested for acute care settings

Responsibilities

  • Provide admission and management as MRP for unattached patients.
  • Support care for surgical, medical and psychiatric patients.
  • Rotate among the Hospitalist group and contribute to committees/administrative work.
  • Handle intake shifts in ER, evenings, weekends and nights (weekend ~1 in 3).
  • Role is preferred full-time; part-time opportunities may be available.

Role and Facility Information

Fraser Health is seeking physicians interested in working at Burnaby Hospital. The successful candidate(s) will be responsible to provide services including admission and management as the Most Responsible Physician (MRP) for otherwise unattached patients, as well as supportive care for surgical, medical specialty and psychiatric patients. The Hospitalist Program at Burnaby is a well-established program with physicians who are committed to providing the highest quality of care to our patients. Burnaby Hospital is a community hospital, committed to a culture of collaborative, inter-professional team-based care.

Applicants should have a desire and ability to work collaboratively with all members of the inter-professional team, including other physicians, Nurses, and Allied Health staff. The candidate requires excellent clinical and communication skills. Collegiality, enthusiasm, flexibility, and a willingness to learn, improve and adapt are important qualities. Experience in Hospitalist work is an asset, although not necessary. Interest in quality improvement and leadership is an asset. The work is rotated equally among members of the group and will include contributions to committee and administrative work. Intake shifts in ER, evenings, weekend and night shifts are mandatory and are shared equally. Continuity of care is important, and weekend work is approximately 1 in 3.

The preference is for this role to be full-time, although part-time opportunities may be available.

Compensation: The current contract pays $200.10/hr. Fulltime work is considered a minimum of 1680 hours of work annually.

Burnaby General Hospital is a 314-bed hospital in Burnaby, BC, offering medical, surgical, obstetrical, geriatric, palliative, oncology, psychiatric and ICU services as well as 24/7 emergency services with after-hours emergency surgery.
