Job summary

Alberta Health Services Grande Prairie Regional Hospital is seeking a Pharmacy Assistant to support pharmacists and technicians. You will package, distribute, ship medications and manage inventory levels under supervision, with duties including repackaging, clerical tasks, and reporting from the pharmacy system.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized pharmacy assistant program and/or hospital/retail pharmacy experience.
  • Strong English language skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience with Windows-based computer applications.
  • Knowledge of purchasing, receiving, and inventory control of pharmaceuticals.
  • Typing around 40 wpm; excellent communication and time management.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Physical capability for heavy lifting and extended standing.

Responsibilities

  • Distributes, delivers and repackages medications.
  • Manages and replenishes medication inventory levels.
  • Packs, labels and monitors ward stock and narcotics distribution.
  • Operates Automated Dispensing Cabinets (Omnicell).
  • Prints and distributes reports from the pharmacy system.
  • Maintains cleanliness and performs routine equipment maintenance.
  • Trains new employees and participates in QA activities.
  • Communicates unit-based issues to pharmacy staff.
  • Performs clerical duties and filing.
