Job summary

Brockville General Hospital is seeking a Temporary Part-Time Porter to assist in patient transport, delivery of supplies and equipment, and movement of materials across the facility. The role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and customer service.

Shift hours vary (early to late, weekends and holidays) with potential extension. Requires Grade 12, WHMIS training, and ability to lift heavy items while working independently or in a team. Union CUPE.

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent.
• WHMIS training.
• Read, write and communicate effectively.
• Relate to patients, visitors, staff and volunteers tactfully.
• Good decision making and problem solving.
• Flexible, creative and able to establish priorities.
• Must have physical ability to perform all tasks.
• Work is moderately heavy: lifting, walking, standing, bending, pushing and pulling.
• Knowledge of safe lifting practices and ability to use lift equipment.
• Work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
• Ability to use a portable phone and respond to overhead paging.
• Familiar with computer usage (word processing, email, spreadsheets).
• Previous related experience an asset.
• Knowledge of hospital layout an asset.
• Good attendance and availability.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients and materials as directed.
• Move patients for diagnostic tests and between units.
• Transport specimens, equipment and mail within the hospital.
• Stock and deliver linen supplies.
• Maintain safe work practices and deliver high-quality service.
• Participate in hospital-wide activities and risk management initiatives.
