Qualifications

  • Medication Administration Certification required.
  • Previous experience in a care community preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care including medication assistance and bathing.
  • Observe and monitor residents' progress and report observations.
  • Encourage residents to participate in activities.

Job description

This position is covered under the HEABC wage levelling. Please note the wage is currently being adjusted and topped up by the government and the displayed wage is therefore reflective of such initiative.

LOCATION : Nanaimo Seniors Village

Position : Part-Time Temporary - Nights (4 on, 4 off - 2300-0700)

About the Role

The Home Support Worker (HSW) reports to the Assisted Living Clinical Manager and / or designate and provides person served holistic and quality care. The HSW at our communities is an integral member of the team, performing their role in accordance with established policies and procedures, while maintaining the rights of residents and ensuring they are treated with respect and dignity.

Responsibilities

Include but not limited to;

  • Follows established personal service plans.
  • Provides personal care for our residents from admission or transfer including; medication assistance, bathing, grooming, dressing, assists with meals, oral hygiene and performing other care duties as applicable.
  • Responds to call bell alarms.
  • Observes and monitors residents progress, symptoms and behavioral changes including unscheduled care requests and reports significant observations.
  • Involves the resident in organizing and maintaining their home environment, ensuring it is done according to the residents’ wishes and needs.
  • Encourages and assists residents to participate in social, physical, spiritual and recreational activities.
  • Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of community policies and procedures, particularly those concerning emergency procedures including equipment management, guidance and assistance on safe work practices.
  • Attends and participates in community and education programs.
  • Night shift will include housekeeping duties as per the night routine.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Graduate from a recognized Care Aide Program.
  • An active registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
  • Valid First Aid Level 1 certification and current CPR.
  • Medication Administration Certification required.
  • Previous experience in a care community preferred.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
  • Must be in good health, physically able to perform repetitive tasks, lift, squat, bend, stand and walk as required to perform the duties of the position.
