Job summary

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority in Winnipeg is seeking a Home Support Worker to assist with basic care tasks within the Fort Garry Home Care program. You will join a healthcare team and follow directions from the Resource Coordinator.

The role requires flexibility for days, evenings and weekends, in-person work, a valid Manitoba Class 5 license, and the ability to travel between client homes. Training on PHIA, WHMIS and universal precautions is provided.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience with housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation preferred.
  • Minimum Grade 10 education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle or willingness to travel year-round.
  • Food Handler’s Certificate may be required.

  • Assist with basic supportive care as directed within the healthcare team.
  • Perform household tasks such as housekeeping and meal preparation per client plan.
  • Maintain clear communication with the care team and document care activities.

Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Resource Coordinator or other designate, the Home Support Worker acts as a member of the healthcare team, assisting with basic supportive care as directed. The Home Support Worker demonstrates a commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the Employer and the Home Care Program.

Experience
  • Previous experience with housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Minimum Grade 10 education, Manitoba standards, required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and/or willingness to travel year- round.
  • Food Handler’s Certificate may be required.
Qualifications And Skills
  • General skills and ability to perform all tasks and responsibilities relevant to the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize assigned workload.
  • Ability to recognize and pursue self-development opportunities.
  • Effective English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions and values is preferred.
  • Ability to speak, read and write French may be required.
  • Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.
  • Ability to perform as a team member and seek assistance as required.
  • Information and/or training will be provided for the following:
    • Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions).
    • Regional and Program policies and procedures.
    • Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team.
Physical Requirements
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated individuals.
  • May encounter exposure to disease, blood, body fluids, pest infestation, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens, residual smoke, pets, pet dander, etc.
  • Position involves extensive physical activities such as standing, transferring, and transporting patients and equipment handling between 10-20kg on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work shift work and weekends.
  • May be required to travel between client’s homes.

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.

The WRHA legal entity includes Churchill Health Centre, Deer Lodge Centre, Golden West Centennial Lodge, Grace Hospital, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Pan Am Clinic, Prairie Crocus Manor, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA corporate programs, and WRHA community health services.
