Job summary

Heritage Park in Alberta seeks a Costume Technician to maintain and create historical patterns, garments, and sample pieces. The role involves grading patterns, producing sewing instructions, and ensuring historical accuracy for park programs and exhibits.

The technician will collaborate with the Costume Manager, assist staff, volunteers, and students, and contribute to safe, organized operating standards while supporting wardrobe preservation.

Qualifications

• Post Secondary Education in clothing design, construction, and tailoring or equivalent experience.
• Experience in industrial sewing, pattern making, and pattern grading is required.
• Experience in historical or period clothing is an asset.
• Police Information Check required for employment (over 18) and assessed confidentially under Alberta human rights legislation.

Responsibilities

• Develop, modify, and grade patterns using industry-standard techniques and historical wardrobe requirements.
• Measure, lay out, and cut fabrics for garment construction and production.
• Construct and assemble complex mock up garments and pattern components.
• Conduct fittings to prepare patterns for advanced tailoring, alterations, and historical accuracy.
• Research, design, and create patterns for programs, exhibits, and events.
