Job summary

Emcon Services Inc. is seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker/Operator in the Peel/Halton Division. The role focuses on operating light and heavy maintenance equipment and handling routine and winter maintenance tasks with a safe, team-oriented approach.

You will report to the Road Superintendent and participate in a range of operational duties, including paperwork and proper equipment care. Shift work and a valid DZ (and AZ where possible) are essential.

Qualifications

  • DZ license in good standing is required.
  • AZ license is preferred and counted as an asset.
  • Experience in provincial or municipal highway maintenance.
  • Polite, helpful with public and agencies; good teamwork.
  • Punctual, reliable and willing to work shift work.
  • Physically capable of performing highway maintenance tasks safely.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and operate light and heavy maintenance equipment (patrol trucks, loaders, plows, spreaders, tractors).
  • Complete paperwork: inspection docs, hours logs, safety checks, winter records, timesheets.
  • Perform routine maintenance: cleaning, greasing, refueling, blade changes.
  • Carry out winter highway maintenance, yard and facility tasks as assigned.
  • Report accidents, damage, and operational issues to the supervisor with documentation.
  • Patrol in winter; night shifts may be required.

Emcon Services Inc. is a proud Canadian-based company with over 30 years of success as an interprovincial road and bridge maintenance contractor. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Highway Maintenance Worker/Operator for our Peel/Halton Division.

Reporting to the Road Superintendent, the Highway Maintenance Worker/Operator is responsible for:
  • Preparing and operating light and heavy maintenance equipment such as patrol trucks, loaders, plows, spreaders, combinations, tractors, etc.
  • Completing all required paperwork including Driver Inspection documents, Hours of Service Log Sheets, Vehicle Circle Safety Checks, Winter Operations Records, Equipment Cost Reports, timesheets, reports and other operational documents as required.
  • Performing required preventative and routine equipment maintenance, which includes but is not limited to, cleaning/washing the interior and exterior of equipment, assisting in changing plow blades, minor equipment repairs, greasing equipment and refueling equipment after use.
  • Carrying-out all routine/non-routine winter highway maintenance activities, facility maintenance and yard maintenance as required.
  • Reporting accidents, incidents and/or injuries to the Supervisor completing required documentation.
  • Notifying appropriate personnel regarding damage to equipment as well as needed repairs and/or operational problems of equipment.
  • Reporting highway conditions, public accidents and MTO property damage, including damage to highway right of way such as guide posts, flex beam and bridge handrail to the patroller on duty.
  • Patrolling in the Winter, night shifts are required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate must have:
  • Minimum DZ license in good standing;
  • Preferred AZ license with proven experience, considered an asset;
  • Experience in Provincial and or Municipal highway maintenance field;
  • Helpful, friendly and courteous with the public, regulatory agencies and peers;
  • Punctual, reliable and willing to work shift work;
  • Physically able to meet all requirements and perform satisfactorily all highway maintenance and emergency assignments, working in a safe and environmentally friendly manner that also promotes cost effective operations, and staff co-operation.

The role is a unionized role.

Pay Range: $27 - $33 hourly
