Job summary

Egis Canada is seeking a Highway Engineer to lead multidisciplinary transportation projects in Ontario. The role spans planning, detailed design, coordination, and delivery for MTO projects, working with engineers, regulatory bodies, utilities, and construction partners.

The ideal candidate has a Civil Engineering degree, P.Eng certification, and 5+ years in highway design and project management, with strong communication and team leadership abilities for successful delivery across project

Qualifications

  • University degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  • Minimum 5+ years of highway design and project management.
  • Experience delivering transportation infrastructure projects within a consulting engineering environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Highway Engineering and Transportation Engineering principles, policies, regulations, guidelines, and operational procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and delivering highway and roadway design projects.
  • Experience coordinating with clients, regulatory agencies, utilities, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within project teams.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a registered and insured vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Project Manager and Highway Engineer for multidisciplinary highway and bridge detailed design projects for MTO.
  • Provide technical mentorship, engineering oversight, and project guidance to engineers and technical staff.
  • Lead project teams in the design delivery of freeways, urban roadways, rural highways, interchanges, and intersections.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews to ensure compliance with corporate and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with clients, approval agencies, utility providers, contractors, and project stakeholders to support regulatory approvals and project execution.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with consultants, industry partners, and business stakeholders to support project delivery objectives.
  • Prepare proposals, project work plans, schedules, resource forecasts, and budgets.
  • Monitor project performance, schedule adherence, technical progress, and delivery milestones to achieve project targets.
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary stakeholder coordination throughout planning, design, and implementation activities.

About the Role

Highway Engineer is responsible for leading multidisciplinary transportation infrastructure projects. The role supports the planning, detailed design, coordination, and delivery of highway and bridge assignments for the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), working with engineers, technical specialists, regulatory agencies, utility stakeholders, and construction partners.

Project responsibilities span highway expansion, freeway widening, interchange improvements, roadway rehabilitation, bridge rehabilitation and replacement, intersection design, and roundabout projects. The position operates within a consulting engineering environment and requires oversight of technical delivery, quality management, stakeholder coordination, project controls, and proposal development.

The ideal candidate combines professional engineering registration with at least five years of highway design and project management experience, including exposure to MTO transportation projects, multidisciplinary coordination, and design delivery throughout multiple project phases.

What do we need from you

Required

  • Experience coordinating with clients, regulatory agencies, utilities, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.

Assets

  • Experience with the MTO RAQS system and progression toward approval in applicable specialties.
  • Previous involvement in freeway widening, interchange improvement, roadway rehabilitation, bridge rehabilitation, or bridge replacement projects.
  • Experience supporting transportation projects across various regions of Ontario.
  • Established relationships within transportation infrastructure and public-sector engineering environments.
