Job summary

Oxford Learning Calgary West is seeking part-time tutors to teach high school math and science in our Calgary learning centre. Lessons are pre-planned and tutors will be fully trained in our proprietary methods. The role is in-person with after-school hours and some Saturdays, requiring reliable attendance.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, tutoring experience for Grades 9–12, and be willing to undergo a vulnerable sector screening. Salary is $17 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or similar certification in a relevant field.
  • Tutoring experience with Grade 9–12 math and science.
  • Teaching certification an asset.
  • Proficiency in Physics, Chemistry, and/or Biology is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Teach up to 3 students at a time, at different levels.
  • Teach online and in-person sessions.
  • Follow Oxford Learning methodologies and philosophies.
  • Fill in post-lesson notes.
  • Complete daily student communication updates.
  • Maintain a friendly and professional manner at all times.

Job description

High School Math/Science Teacher/Tutor Wanted

Gain valuable teaching experience! Oxford Learning Calgary West is currently seeking part-time tutors for a role in our learning centre. This position is perfect for anyone who loves working with students, enjoys numbers and equations, and is passionate about helping others build their skills in these areas.

Teacher-Tutors at Oxford Learning do not have to lesson plan before class, as all lessons are pre-planned. Applicants will be fully trained in our proprietary philosophy and methods.

Position Requirements

All Teacher-Tutors at Oxford Learning work during after-school and evening hours (4:00pm - 8:00pm) as well as some Saturdays (9:00am - 1:00pm). A commitment until the end of the termin June is preferred. Continuing through the summer is even better. Your students will love working with you, and being reliable is a must.

This role is in-person. You must be able to commute to this location. This is not an online position. Relocation packages are not available.

Vulnerable sector screening is mandatory.

We encourage you to apply if you have the majority of the following requirements:

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or similar certification in a relevant field
  • University students with tutoring experience will be considered
  • Teaching certification an asset
  • Good knowledge of the current Grades 9-12 math and science curriculum
  • Proficiency in Physics, Chemistry, and/or Biology is an asset
Experience
  • Some experience teaching/tutoring math and science at a Grade 9 to 12 (or equivalent) level
  • Strong English written and oral communication skills
  • Strong math skills and ability to guide students’ understanding
  • Ability to multitask and balance working with up to three students at a time

You will work directly with students as an Interactive Coach with the following responsibilities:

  • Teaching up to 3 students at a time at different levels
  • Teaching online and in-person
  • Following the Oxford Learning methodologies and philosophies
  • Filling in post-lesson notes
  • Completing daily student communication updates
  • Maintaining a friendly and professional manner at all times

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $17 / hour

Schedule:
  • Evenings
  • Monday to Friday
  • Saturday availability
