Qualifications

What We Look For In a High School Chemistry Tutor

• Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of atomic structure, periodic table trends, chemical bonding, nomenclature, stoichiometry, states of matter, gas laws, solutions, acids and bases, and basic thermochemistry. Ability to explain electron configurations, ionic versus covalent bonding, mole conversions, and balancing chemical equations while preparing students for AP Chemistry, college placement, and standardized science assessments.
• Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at breaking down mole-to-mole conversions, limiting reagent problems, and Lewis structure drawing. Guides students through dimensional analysis, predicting product types from reaction classifications, interpreting the periodic table for element properties, and performing laboratory calculations. Emphasizes building chemical intuition alongside computational skills and connects chemistry to everyday phenomena and environmental science.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with high school chemistry curricula and Regents or state standards, and common challenges such as understanding the mole concept, balancing equations, and distinguishing ionic from covalent compounds. Adapts instruction using models, demonstrations, and step-by-step dimensional analysis practice to support students from introductory through honors and pre-AP chemistry levels.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
