Your opportunity:

The Student Service Hub Welcome Desk Coordinator is at the forefront of the Student Services Hub at UTM. The Hub is an innovative service that brings together the International Education Centre, Accessibility Services, the Centre for Student Engagement, the Career Centre and the Health Promotions team in a first stop format for students. Under the direction of the Director, Career Centre, the Coordinator will provide service to students and UTM community members as a deep generalist able to connect with students, clarify their questions, link students to resources and scaffold their concerns into a comprehensive and actionable plan. The role will provide respectful and empathetic service to our diverse community, as equity, diversity and inclusivity are key values for both the Hub and Student Affairs and Services. Operating within a Hello Desk team of professional and student staff, the Coordinator will also liaise with Hub resident department staff and provide recommendations for service improvements.

Working hours are: Monday - Friday, 8:45am-5:00pm onsite

Please note this is a term position until April 30, 2027, with the possibility of renewal

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Acting as the first point of contact for general enquiries
  • Probing for information to establish needs
  • Screening and making referrals to appropriate resources and services
  • Analyzing administrative processes and procedures and recommending changes for improvement
  • Fostering cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts
  • Training and coaching casual staff
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum two years experience providing front line university student services
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving ability
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Possess judgment, particularly in respect to confidential information, patience, flexibility and adaptability
  • Demonstrate excellent attention to details
  • Demonstrate capacity to handle busy and heavy workload
  • Ability to translate student development and related theories to practice
