Job description

Beamish Construction is looking for hard-working, self‑motivated employees with a proven record of safety and reliability to fill the position of Heavy Equipment Mechanic in Elliot Lake, Ontario. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will require a high level of motivation, professionalism and independence. This is a full‑time permanent position available with competitive wage and benefits package.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Knowledge and ability to repair and service a variety of heavy equipment including excavators, loaders, graders, pavers, rollers, and crushers.
  • Perform electrical, hydraulic and mechanical maintenance.
  • Anticipate and troubleshoot breakdowns, list parts required and process orders.
  • Perform vehicle road tests.
  • Knowledge of vehicle reports and CVOR.
  • Document all repairs on work orders or computer system. Fill out appropriate inspection sheets when required.
  • Daily inspect all parts to ensure they are appropriately marked.
  • Communicate with operations and supervisory staff on availability of equipment.
  • Prioritize tasks to ensure work is completed efficiently.
  • Prepare daily service reports.
  • Physical work including lifting (up to 50 lbs), bending, crouching, climbing, crawling and reaching repeatedly throughout the workday.
  • Display professionalism toward our company and customers.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work environment and equipment.
  • Work schedule including evenings and weekends when required.
  • Travel between sites and over‑night stays on occasion.
  • Work in accordance with all internal, client and regulated health and safety policies, procedures and/or regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Job Qualifications
  • Trade Certification in either Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (421A) or Agricultural Equipment Technician (425A) is required.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working on heavy machinery is required.
  • Valid G Class Driver’s License is required.
  • Heavy equipment Red Seal Certification considered an asset.
  • DZ License is considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge and ability to repair trucks, trailers and/or power equipment.
  • Ability to work as efficiently as possible with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to adapt to last‑minute changes as dictated by the needs of our customers.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a cheerful outlook and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
