Job description

Kal Tire is seeking an experienced and certified Heavy Duty Journeyperson to take on a Lead Tech role at our busy Commercial Store on Yellowhead Trail NW. This is an opportunity to lead a skilled team of technicians, support our commercial customers, and play a key role in maintaining Kal Tire’s reputation for safety, quality, and exceptional service.

About the Role:

As the Lead Heavy Duty Technician, you’ll perform inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of commercial trucks and trailers. You’ll also serve as the technical expert in the shop—coaching apprentices, guiding peers, and being a trusted contact for our commercial customers.

Your day-to-day will include:
  • Leading by example with safe, high-quality work and strong customer focus.
  • Diagnosing and repairing steering, suspension, brakes, and drivetrain systems.
  • Performing and signing off CVIP inspections (required).
  • Supporting the shop with troubleshooting and technical direction.
  • Mentoring apprentices and developing future leaders.
  • Ensuring smooth shop operations, workflow, and cleanliness.

What We’re Looking For:
  • Certified Heavy Duty Journeyperson / Journeyman (Red Seal) – Only licensed technicians will be considered
  • CVIP Certification – Required
  • OPI Certification – Preferred
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in heavy-duty mechanical work, including diagnostics and complex repairs
  • Confident communicator with customers and team members
  • Safety-focused, motivated, and methodical in your work
  • Valid driver’s licence and ability to lift 30–50 lbs as needed
