Job summary

Role Overview

Sandvik Mining is seeking a Licensed Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our Field Service team in Newfoundland.

Schedule: 14‑14 (subject to change). Permanent and stable opportunity with a respected and growing company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect equipment for proper performance and diagnose faults and malfunctions.
  • Adjust, repair, and replace defective parts, components, or systems according to scope of work.
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure operational performance.
  • Commission new equipment and train customers on operations.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Complete accurate time records, technical reports, failure reports, and parts lists.
  • Stay current with industry developments, product developments, and technical best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager.
Environmental, Health and Safety Responsibilities
  • Comply with safety policies and applicable regulations.
  • Identify and report unsafe work habits, incidents, and near misses.
  • Perform risk assessments (Take Five) prior to each task.
  • Maintain hand tools, equipment, and orderly work area; ensure housekeeping requirements are met.
  • Attend EH&S related trainings.
  • Wear required PPE for each task.

Qualifications
  • Relevant trade certification (Red Seal considered an asset).
  • At least 3 years of related experience with mining equipment.
  • Experience with equipment operations considered an asset.
  • Common Core training considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in reading hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and mechanical issues with mining equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office).
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally and across Canada as required.
  • Ability and willingness to work varied shifts as required.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.
