Job summary

The City of Yellowknife is seeking a qualified Heavy Duty Mechanic to maintain and repair the city’s heavy truck and equipment fleet. Reporting to the Fleet Supervisor, you will perform preventive maintenance and diagnose faults to keep assets in optimal condition.

Candidates must hold a Journeyman Heavy Duty Technician Certificate with at least five years of experience, a valid NWT Class 5 license, and welding skills (oxy-acetylene, arc, MIG). On-call duties apply.

Qualifications

• Journeyman Heavy Duty Technician Certificate and at least five years of experience.
• Valid NWT Class 5 driver’s license.
• Training in oxy-acetylene and arc welding (including MIG welders).
• Ability to read and interpret manuals and diagnose faults with independent judgment.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs for the City's heavy truck, stationary engine and equipment fleet.
• Service and repair small gasoline and diesel equipment.
• Read and interpret manufacturers' manuals and use diagnostic equipment.
• Order proper replacement parts and maintain service records.
