Qualifications

  • Possess and maintain in good standing a valid Red Seal Truck & Transport license.
  • Possess a complete set of personal tools.
  • Conduct themselves in a professional and service oriented manner.
  • Have a valid Class 5 driver's license; Class 1 is desirable.
  • Experience repairing and maintaining Class 8 highway tractors.
  • Experience in welding and repairing stainless steel trailers is an asset.
  • Commitment to safe work procedures.
  • Ability to work as an independent self-starter when necessary.
  • Strength and stamina required to work on heavy equipment.
  • Willingness to learn and keep current with changes in technology.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will possess the following experience and qualifications:

  • Possess and maintain in good standing a valid Red Seal Truck & Transport license.
  • Possess a complete set of personal tools.
  • Conduct themselves in a professional and service oriented manner with all team members.
  • Have a valid Class 5 driver's license. A Class 1 license is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience repairing and maintaining Class 8 highway tractors and a range of highway trailers ranging from tandem axle to B-train configurations.
  • Experience in welding and repairing stainless steel trailers would be an asset but not essential.
  • A commitment to safe work procedures and the critical importance of preventative vs restorative maintenance.
  • Ability to work in a team based, collaborative work environment as well as being an independent, self-starter when necessary.
  • Strength and stamina required to work on heavy equipment and work in cramped or awkward positions.
  • The ability to think logically and willingness to learn and keep current with changes in technology.
Primary Duties

The Truck and Transport Technician maintains, diagnoses and repairs our fleet of on-highway tractors and tank trailers through the following primary activities:

  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions from a safety, mechanical and electrical perspective utilizing various tools, technical manuals / resources and computerized testing equipment with the emphasis on ensuring the diagnosis is correct.
  • Repairing and / or replacing components to address the faults that have been diagnosed.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure that the work performed meets manufacturers specifications and legislated regulations to ensure the safe and reliable future operation.
  • Complete service reports and other required paperwork to support the work performed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Communication with drivers and operations staff to triage on-the-road issues and determine the best course of action.
  • Facilitate with keeping our fleet of equipment in a safe and reliable operating condition with emphasis on a regular inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Promote and encourage our culture of safety through all actions and ensuring a safe work area.
  • Assist as necessary with periodic off-site service calls.
