Position Summary

The Gear Centre Group of Companies is a leading provider of powertrain parts and service for the automotive, heavy truck and off highway equipment industries and includes multiple well-established organizations with branches across Canada and we want you to be part of our continued success!

We are currently seeking a full-time, motivated, and experienced Heavy Duty Equipment Technician to join our service team.

Position Overview

The Heavy Duty Equipment Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy equipment used in industries such as construction, mining, agriculture, and transportation, including transmissions, differentials, and driveline systems. This position plays an essential role in supporting equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and ensuring the highest level of service for our customers. The role involves hands‑on mechanical work, technical problem solving, and collaboration within a dynamic team environment.

Employer: Edmonton Gear Centre Ltd.

Shift Information: Full-time, permanent position Monday to Friday, daytime 40 hours

Start Date: March 2, 2026

Work Environment: Shop environment working with heavy duty equipment, powertrain components, tools, and diagnostic equipment

Hourly Rate: $36.00 per hour

Location: 7337 Pacific Cir #2, Mississauga, ON L5T 1V1

Language Competency: English

Primary Responsibilities
  • Diagnose mechanical issues in heavy equipment and determine appropriate repair requirements
  • Repair and rebuild transmissions, differentials, and driveline components used in industries such as construction, mining, agriculture, and transportation
  • Perform preventative maintenance to ensure optimal equipment performance and minimize downtime
  • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and driveline concerns
  • Maintain detailed and accurate repair and service records
  • Collaborate with team members to resolve complex technical problems
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, following all company safety protocols
  • Provide support to other technicians as needed to ensure efficient workflow
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Service Manager
Qualifications
  • Completion of a recognized Heavy Equipment Technician program, or a Millwright program with proven experience working on heavy equipment, and a valid Journeyman certification in the applicable trade
  • 5 years of experience diagnosing, repairing, and rebuilding heavy equipment, including transmissions and driveline systems
  • Strong understanding of powertrain systems, including mechanical, hydraulic, and diagnostic components
  • Proficient with diagnostic tools, equipment, and technical manuals
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent problem‑solving and analytical abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid driver license
  • Able to lift more than 45 kg
  • Confident and positive demeanor
