Job description

Working together to provide outstanding integrated health care to our communities, delivering the best patient outcomes with exemplary standards and compassion, Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) is a multi-site organization that includes Huntsville District Memorial Hospital Site and South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Site.

Role

The Healthcare Data Analyst will be responsible for leading and/or contributing to various initiatives with a clinical focus to support advancing the organization’s strategic goals and overall analytics maturity.

  • Collaborate with Senior Leadership, Directors, Managers, and Clinical Teams to support performance monitoring initiatives, dashboards, and scorecards.
  • Promote data literacy by assisting managers in data interpretation and application.
  • Analyze complex business data and develop reports to enable informed decision-making, including:

Analysis and interpretation of data sets, providing insights for decision support.

  • Design, develop, and maintain decision support systems and databases.
  • Guide and support users of decision support tools.
  • Evaluate decision support systems regularly for effectiveness and updates.
  • Participate in committees and support internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engage with provincial peers to stay current on trends and opportunities in data analysis and technology.
  • Assess relationships between hospital volume activity and clinical operations impact.
  • Support research initiatives to improve regional healthcare.
  • Create reporting tools and visualizations (scorecards/dashboards) for clinical and performance data presentation.
  • Utilize software tools such as SQL Server, Tableau, Power BI, IDS, and other analytical tools for comprehensive analysis.
  • Participate in educational offerings on business intelligence, reporting, and analytics.
  • Communicate findings effectively to stakeholders, providing recommendations and advice.
  • Ensure compliance with data collection, analysis, and dissemination standards to meet regulatory and organizational needs.
  • Generate data quality reports for Coding sectors for validation and reconciliation prior to submission to CIHI.
  • Collaborate with Finance to validate clinical indicators regularly and as needed.
  • Identify and advise on issues related to data standards and methodologies.
  • Participate in committees and teams, providing decision support on data/reporting issues.
  • Review literature to ensure methodologies align with best practices.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to document clinical data requirements for initiatives and reporting.
  • Required Education & Certification

    • Diploma or degree in business, finance, computer/data science, health management, statistics, or related discipline.
    • Professional designation with the Canadian College of Health Information Management (CHIMA) in good standing.

    Required Skills & Experience

    • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in analytics, modeling, consulting, or health information management.
    • Analytical, detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to engage with all organizational levels effectively.
    • Understanding of quality improvement, lean methodologies, and program evaluation.

    Desired Skills, Experience, and Education

    • Healthcare experience, especially in hospital settings.
    • Experience with hospital data sets (HIT, NACRS, DAD, NRS, CCRS, OMHRS, WTIS, OHA analytics, IDS, etc.) is advantageous.
    • Proficiency with Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools.
    • Knowledge of Cerner, Oracle, Med2020 is preferred.

    Additional Information

    Location: Multi-site, working on-site at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge and Huntsville District Memorial Hospital in Huntsville. Applicants should reside within 125 km or be willing to relocate.

  • Exceptions considered case-by-case.
  • Hours of Work: Monday-Friday, day shifts. Hours may vary per departmental needs.
