Job summary

Battlefield Equipment Rentals, part of the Toromont Industries family, is seeking a Health & Safety Specialist in Toronto to strengthen our safety culture. You will promote safe work practices, deliver engaging training, and help maintain compliance across regions for employees and customers.

You will develop and implement safety programs, conduct inspections and audits, and collaborate with committees to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Must have strong Health & Safety knowledge and the ability to deliver engaging safety training.
• Proven ability to support safety program development and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions.

Responsibilities

• Model safe and healthy work behaviours in line with policies and initiatives.
• Develop and apply preventive health and safety programs and action plans.
• Contribute to policy development and revise procedures for Safety Management System.
• Support operations, supervise and train leaders to enforce safety obligations.
• Manage incident reporting, claims, and Return to Work processes.
• Administer audits, inspections, and follow up on deficiencies.
• Lead safety programs by defining requirements and ensuring proper processes.
• Collaborate with Health and Safety Committees to improve daily responsibilities.
• Source and deliver OHS training programs and assist investigations as needed.
• Assist in determining key OHS performance indicators and meet safety targets.

Position: Health & Safety Specialist Location: Toronto, ON Type: Full-Time, Permanent Pay: $80,000.00 to $85,000.00 annual salary (based on experience)

As a Health & Safety Specialist, you will focus on promoting our strong safety culture across the region by continually monitoring, inspiring, and improving safe behaviors while delivering clear, engaging, and regulation compliant safety training. The Safety Trainer plays a vital role in maintaining a strong safety culture across the region for both our employees and customers.

What You'll Be Doing

Model the way for safe, environmentally sound and healthy work behaviours in support of Battlefields Health and Safety Policies, programs and initiatives resulting in achieving or exceeding safety performance objectives;

Contribute to the development and application of preventive programs, health and safety programs and OHS action plans in collaboration with the Health and Safety team;

Participate in the development and/or revision of policies and necessary procedures to manage the Safety Management System;

Provide direction and support to operations, particularly Supervisors, as they execute their safety obligations including responding to inquiries, providing instruction and training and/or working with Operational Leaders to provide them with skills to be more effective;

Support and execute incident reporting, claims management and Return to Work Programs to effectively manage claim costs;

Administer the Inspection and Audit Programs, proceed with regular and random field and site audits and ensure appropriate follow-up on any findings or deficiencies;

Lead the development of key Safety Programs as needed by devising requirements and policies, identifying training requirements, and ensuring proper processes and procedures are in place for successful execution;

Collaborate with the Health and Safety Committees to develop their skills for more effectiveness in their daily responsibilities;

Source and develop OHS Training Programs, co-ordinate and execute delivery to organization in support of our Safety Training Matrix as needed;Participate and support in investigations/accident analysis and recommend corrective measures;

Assist in determining key OHS performance indicators and support the operations with achieving our key safety targets and business plan
