Job summary

A leading Canadian company seeks a Health & Safety Specialist to oversee regulatory compliance and safety program implementation. You will coordinate permitting, maintain safety certificates, and ensure fleet compliance with health standards. The candidate should have 2-5 years of experience in an HSSE role, preferably with safety designations. This role offers an opportunity to impact safety measures in a diverse marine construction environment.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years’ experience in HSSE role.
  • Safety designations such as CRSP, COHSES or CESS is preferred.
  • Experience in Transportation & Logistics would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in construction and/or marine environment would be considered an asset.

Job Description

We are currently seeking applicants for the position of Health & Safety Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing new processes, standards, and operational plans that will have an impact on the achievement and ownership of functional results.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all permitting, recordkeeping/document retention, and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Maintain insurance and safety certificates, WCB, and operating licenses
  • Liaise with third parties including permitting and government agencies, consultants, and insurance providers
  • Manage NBCSA Certificate of Recognition (COR) program
  • Manage company PPE; select, source and issue PPE relative to risks associated with SOPs
  • Conduct worksite and incident investigations when required and provide leadership for others that are required to do investigations. Make recommendations for corrective and preventive changes in equipment or processes to address unsafe conditions, and implement accordingly.
  • Ensure that the fleet is fully compliant with all relevant legislative requirements relating to health and safety. Identify and implement changes necessary to respond to new legislative requirements.
  • Ensure Safety Programs are meeting or exceeding targets, evaluating current programs, and preparation of new safety programs
  • Cross-functional training within HSSE department to support all roles
  • Prepare and implement hazard assessments for operational functions
Qualifications
  • Post Secondary education would be considered an asset
  • 2-5 years’ experience in HSSE role

  • Experience in Transportation & Logistics considered an asset
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, with a strong aptitude for learning new software
  • Proficiency in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) software
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
