We are supporting our hiring partner in the manufacturing industry, operating in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec, in welcoming a Health and Safety Manager to their team in Maxville, Ontario.

Role Summary

The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for maintaining and overseeing all aspects of safety and risk management for all three company locations. He will primarily lead on company health and safety initiatives.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure all proactive measures, incidents, accidents and near misses are properly recorded.
  • Schedule, coordinate and preside WHSC meetings at regular intervals nine times per year.
  • Update and maintain data on employee training and their renewal dates, planning and scheduling refresher training when required.
  • Maintain Employee Health & Safety Boards
  • Review, draft, edit and present to the committee new or changes in procedures in response to changes in the Canada Labour Code or operating procedures
  • Monitor operational processes and employee activities to ensure adherence to safety policies and or guidelines
  • Intervene in correcting unsafe work practices.
  • Organize investigation processes.
  • Keep an accurate record of all safety-related issues within the organization and make sure that corrective measures are taken.
  • Update and maintain contractor list, ensuring accurate and valid records are kept on file.
  • Provide the company President with regular updates on the status of workplace health and safety.
  • Train employees on health and safety policies as well as best practices.
  • Key contact and responsible for the communication and management of the WSIB process for all locations.
  • Perform quarterly safety inspections at all company locations.
  • Attend OABA meetings (Guelph, ON)
  • Tend to Health & Safety matters at all the company’s locations, as required.
  • Operate only equipment and machinery for which training has been received, safely and effectively.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions immediately to the Supervisor, having secured the equipment.
  • Wear personal protective equipment as approved.
  • Comply with all Company Health and Safety Policies.
  • Must have a strong sense of the need for a safe and healthy work environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, diploma or certificate in occupational health & safety, Public Health, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years in health and safety, ideally in the industrial and manufacturing sectors.
  • Knowledge of a federally regulated work environment is desirable
  • Management-level experience leading a team preferred
  • CRSP, CRST and other relevant designations are assets
  • Bilingual (English/ French) is ideal
