Job summary

Surrey Schools in Surrey, BC, is seeking a Health and Safety Coordinator for a one-year temporary assignment. The role reports to the Manager of Employee Health & Safety and supports the Prevention team with health and safety programs across the district.

Key duties include planning initiatives, coordinating activities, maintaining documentation, and supporting training and communications related to safety.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety required with three years’ related experience.
• Experience working with health and safety legislation and compliance.
• Valid BC driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, executing, and tracking health and safety initiatives and timelines.
• Coordinate project activities across departments and sites; liaise with partners to support implementation.
• Track safety records, address deficiencies, and resolve compliance issues.
• Participate in audits, hazard assessments, inspections, and incident investigations.
• Develop and maintain safety documentation including checklists, procedures, and training materials.

One Year Temporary Position

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Employee Health & Safety (EHS), the Health and Safety Coordinator supports the Prevention team by providing operational support for health and safety programs across the school district. The role also supports project planning, coordination, implementation, tracking and reporting for health and safety projects and initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, executing, and tracking health and safety initiatives, timelines, and action items.
• Coordinate project activities across departments and sites. Liaise with internal departments and external partners to support implementation. Maintain project documentation and prepare regular project status updates and reports.
• Track safety records, address deficiencies, and resolve or expand compliance issues.
• Participate in audits, hazard assessments, inspections, and incident investigations and support implementation of corrective actions.
• Develop and maintain safety documentation including checklists, procedures, inspection forms, and training materials.
• Support the development and delivery of training. Assist with safety communications and toolbox talks.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

• Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety and three years’ recent related experience.
• Valid B.C. Driver's License

• Working knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe work practices.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate and build trust with a variety of partners.
• Strong organization and project management skills and ability to manage multiple, concurrent activities.

• Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
• Ability to exercise tact and discretion and maintain a calm, professional approach to sensitive situations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint) and health and safety platforms.

The salary range for thisposition is $80,828 to $101,034 per year with comprehensive benefits package and Municipal Pension.

Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of qualifications and ability to meet the key requirements of the job, and consideration of internal equity comparisons.The midpoint of the range represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience for the position.
