Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate HCA to join our busy Day Surgery Unit, supporting nursing and medical teams in delivering high standards of personalised care across a range of day case procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Assist nursing staff with patient preparation for surgery and recovery.
  • Perform basic clinical observations: temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
  • Carry out routine procedures such as urinalysis, pregnancy testing, ECGs, phlebotomy, wound dressings, and venepuncture once trained.
  • Support patient admissions, transfers and discharges, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and infection control within the department.
  • Act as a chaperone during procedures, ensuring dignity and respect.
  • Maintain stock levels and prepare rooms for admissions.
Qualifications
  • Completed secondary education.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Care (or equivalent).
Experience
  • Previous hospital or ward‑based experience, ideally in a surgical or day‑case setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Capability to perform basic clinical tasks under supervision.
  • Strong organisational and IT skills, including use of electronic patient systems.
