Excel Society in Edmonton is seeking a Health Care Aide (Temporary) for a part-time, on-site position. The role involves supporting clients with daily living activities, meal preparation, medication assistance, and coordination with care teams.

You will follow care plans, uphold safety protocols, document care activities, and liaise with families and professionals. The position requires HCA certification, First Aid/CPR Level C, and a current criminal record check.

Qualifications

  • HCA certificate from an institution recognized by Alberta health Services (via CLHA Directory).
  • Maintain certification in First Aid and CPR Level C.
  • Satisfactory current criminal record check.

Responsibilities

  • Adhering to all Excel Policies and Procedures at all times.
  • Actively participate in Excel Society’s Health and Safety Program, including hazard identification and worksite inspections.
  • Be aware of and implement Excel Society’s Safety Emergency Response Procedures.
  • Make timely and informed decisions considering facts, goals, constraints, risk, Excel Society Values, and the Excel Advantage.
  • Following client care plan and delivering high quality client care.
  • Preparing meals and snacks for clients according to the meal plan and assisting with grocery lists.
  • Using Catalyst system while providing assistance with medications to clients on time according to Excel Policies and procedures and checking/receiving medication that arrive while on shift.
  • Encouraging and supporting client's efforts to maintain/enhance their health and wellness and assisting client with the maintenance of a clean, healthy, and safe home environment.
  • Respecting client’s rights to confidentiality, privacy, independence, well-being, and choice.
  • Maintaining clean and safe environment for clients and co-workers.
  • Performing general household duties and maintenance such cleaning, vacuuming, and laundry; and also outside maintenance such as shovelling snow, cutting grass, and gardening.
  • Maintaining/updating all required documentation such as scorecards, medical records, etc.
  • Assisting clients with hygiene and personal care.
  • Providing emotional support to clients and using de-escalation techniques to support clients.
  • To actively participate with Excel Society’s Health and Safety Program; including hazard identification and assessments; worksite inspections and reporting noted safety concerns; and participating with hazard control efforts.
  • Communicating with staff members during shift exchange.
  • Supporting and assisting clients in maintaining appointments, activities, or programs.
  • Monitoring client wellbeing, physical and mental condition closely and reporting concerns to supervisor. Accompanying clients to appointments as necessary.
  • Liaising with families, guardians, professionals and other resource members of the client(s)’ support network, communicating relevant client information to other team members.
  • Performing other related duties as required.

Hours of Work & Work Location: Temp. Sat. 11a-11p (24 hrs. biweekly)- HCA I (CR7)

The Job Responsibilities are as follows:
