A regional health authority in Canada is seeking a Health Care Aide (HCA) to assist clients with daily living activities. Candidates should have a minimum Grade 10 education and a recognized HCA course. Weekend shifts are mandatory. This role requires effective communication and critical thinking skills, with a preference for those knowledgeable in Indigenous customs.

The Health Care Aide (HCA) may work in a variety of settings including community (clients’ homes, assisted/supportive living), health care centers, and hospitals assisting patients/residents/clients with activities of daily living with the goal of supporting independence while providing comprehensive care and treatment. The job specification sets out the overall general duties and responsibilities of the HCA and recognizes that responsibilities may vary dependent on the setting where the HCA works.
Under the general supervision of the Manager or designate, the Health Care Aide (HCA) assists clients/patients/residents with activities of daily living, providing direct client/patient/resident care, within established standards of care, policies, and procedures. The HCA functions in meeting the special and changing needs of clients/patients/residents and assisting them in reaching and maintaining optimum health and independence within the limits of their abilities. The HCA demonstrates a commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the region/site/program.
Please note that weekend work is a requirement of the Home Care Program. It is an expectation that as a casual employee you must be available for two (2) shifts per month, and do not decline more than three (3) shifts within your availability in a period of 90 calendar days.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
Interviewed candidates may be called upon to participate in a skills assessment.
