Job summary

Retirement Concepts seeks a compassionate Health Care Aide in Kamloops to provide holistic care to residents. Qualifications

  • Active registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate is an asset.
  • Medication Administration Certification is an asset.
  • Previous experience in a long-term care facility is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provides personal care for residents including bathing, grooming, dressing, and assisting with meals.
  • Responds to call bells/alarms and observes residents' progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes.
  • Utilizes proper safety protocols when operating mechanical aides and aids with lifting/transferring residents.
  • Encourages resident participation in food service and maintains the home environment.
  • Attends and participates in community and education programs.

About the Role

The Health Care Aide (HCA) reports to the Director of Care and / ordesignate and provides person served holistic and quality care. The HCA at ourcommunities is an integral member of the team, performing their role inaccordance with established policies and procedures, while maintaining therights of residents and ensuring they are treated with respect and dignity.

Responsibilities

Includebut not limited to :

  • Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing andmaintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizationalculture and purpose.
  • Providespersonal care for our residents from admission or transfer including; bathing,grooming, dressing, assists with meals, oral hygiene and performing other careduties as applicable.
  • Respondsto call bells / alarms.
  • Observesand monitors residents progress, symptoms and behavioral changes and reportssignificant observations.
  • Utilizesproper safety protocols when operating mechanical aides such as specialty beds,wheelchairs, and stretchers to transport residents.
  • Aidswith lifting and / or transferring of residents by following establishedlifting / safety techniques.
  • Providesresidents with nutritional assistance (e.g. meals, nourishment and trayservice, assists residents to eat as needed). Assists residents to and fromdining areas in accordance with meal service schedules. Reports anyappetite / fluid / food intake changes or concerns immediately to the nurse.
  • Encouragesresident participation in food service and clean up.
  • Performs laundryof resident’s personal clothing as required.
  • Involvesthe resident in organizing and maintaining their home environment, ensuring itis done according to the residents’ wishes and needs.
  • Attends andparticipates in community and education programs.
  • Performsother related duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills :

  • Graduatefrom a recognized Care Aide Program.
  • Anactive registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community HealthWorker Registry.
  • FoodSafe Level 1 Certificate an asset.
  • MedicationAdministration Certification an asset.
  • Previousexperience in a long term care facility an asset.
  • Demonstratesability to provide compassionate and empathetic care.
  • Abilityto read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and writteninstructions.
  • Allsuccessful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicableto Provincial guidelines.
  • Abilityto push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 25 lbs. Must be able to workwith cleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment.
