Job summary

Carewest in Calgary is seeking a Health Care Aide to join the Complex Continuing Care team at Garrison Green. This casual role covers days, evenings and nights, providing compassionate, guided care in a dynamic clinical setting.

The HCA role requires Alberta Health Care Aide program completion, English proficiency, and current CLHA registration. You will observe and report client changes, assist with daily living activities, and support a high standard of care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required, plus graduation from an Alberta Government recognized Health Care Aide program.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English is required.
• Must be physically capable of managing the frequent lifting, transferring and repositioning of clients.
• Active and current registration with CLHA required.
• Related experience in a health care facility is an asset.
• Program specific training/experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing client care as part of the interprofessional health care team.
• Observe, monitor and report on client status/condition including changes in physical and emotional status.
• Report changes in client status to the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
• Deliver prescribed medications accurately as per policy and procedure.
• Maintain professional and ethical standards at all times.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Director of Care, the Health Care Aide (HCA) is a regulated member of the interprofessional health care team who provides ongoing client care. The HCA observes, monitors and reports on client status/condition including changes in physical and emotional status. The HCA ensures that changes in client status are reported to the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). This position delivers prescribed medications accurately as per policy and procedure. In keeping with Carewest’s Frame of Reference, Philosophy of Care and Carewest policies this position maintains professional and ethical standards at all times. Responsible for other related duties as required.

Program Summary

Complex Care – for frail seniors who require the care of an interdisciplinary team to maintain and improve quality of life in safe, comfortable and supportive environments. Carewest offers a mix of secured and unsecured units.
