Job summary

Carewest in Calgary is seeking Health Care Aides to support the Rehabilitation and Community Transition Program. You will work under the Director of Care to provide ongoing client care, observe changes in condition, and report to the RN/LPN.

Medication administration is performed per policy and procedure. Requirements include Alberta Health Care Aide program, a High School Diploma or equivalent, CLHA registration, and strong English communication.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Graduation from an Alberta Government recognized Health Care Aide program is required.
• Active and current registration with CLHA is required.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English is required.
• Must be physically capable of managing frequent lifting, transferring and repositioning of clients.

Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing client care as part of the interprofessional health care team.
• Observe, monitor and report on client status/condition to RN or LPN.
• Deliver prescribed medications accurately as per policy and procedure.

The Opportunity

Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the Director of Care, the Health Care Aide (HCA) is a regulated member of the interprofessional health care team who provides ongoing client care. The HCA observes, monitors and reports on client status/condition including changes in physical and emotional status. The HCA ensures that changes in client status are reported to the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

This position delivers prescribed medications accurately as per policy and procedure. In keeping with Carewest’s Frame of Reference, Philosophy of Care and Carewest policies this position maintains professional and ethical standards at all times. Responsible for other related duties as required.

Program Summary:

Rehabilitation and Community Transition Program (RCTP) – a short stay restorative care program that supports medically stable adults who do not need an acute-care level of service, but may require additional assessment, recuperation, and therapy before returning to the community.

Qualifications and Experience:

• - High School Diploma or equivalent is required, plus graduation from an Alberta Government recognized Health Care Aide program.
• - Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English is required.
• - Must be physically capable of managing the frequent lifting, transferring and repositioning of clients.
• - Active and current registration with CLHA required.
• - Related experience in a health care facility is an asset.
• - Program specific training/experience is an asset.
